Panel: Hey, at least we were funny!

Our panel at the World Mystery Convention was titled “I Will Rise Up: Overcoming Extraordinary Circumstances.”

It didn’t escape any of us that the panel consisted of a bunch of middle class white guys. We’re novelists. We LOVE irony!

I was there mostly to be funny but the other authors actually had interesting things to add. They were  William Kent Krueger, Keir Graff, Patrick Lee, Stanley Trollip and C.J. West.

Well done, y’all.

Two oddly juxtaposed conventions

Saturday at the World Mystery Convention in St. Louis. We are sharing the downtown core with the Joyce Meyer Ministries. As you can imagine, a hoard of whodunit fans and a phalanx of the faithful makes for a very odd cross section of Americana. Upon arriving, one woman in the elevator asked Katy and me,” Are you with the mysteries or the ministries?”

She was wearing a warning-yellow scarf emblazoned with the words, Crime Scene – Do Not Enter, so we didn’t feel a need to ask who she was with.

Today is my panel on overcoming adversity. I never have, so I’m wracking my brain to invent something.

A note: I’m blogging on my Facebook fan page almost every day. We’re up to 174 fans and hoping to hit 500 before the sequel launches in November. If you get a moment to become a “fan” please do so!

Dispatch from St. Louis

Greetings from the World Mystery Convention in St. Louis, Mo.! Katy King and I arrived yesterday and already are having a rollicking time. Seeing lots of fans and lots of writers, along with people from the worlds of publishing and agenting – I think that should be a word.

Meeting my editor shortly to discuss publicity for the upcoming novels.
