Cyber-goddess

So. Welcome to the newly refurbished Web site. We dusted the place up a bit, moved the lamps. New throw rug. Whatcha think?

My Web-Goddess is Lin Ly, and measuring her is tough. If you use inches, she’s shorter than I am. If you use intelligence, I’m much, much shorter than she.

When we were at the Statesman-Journal in Salem, Oregon, I was the Capitol Bureau chief and she was the online editor. I recognized that newspapers were beginning to implode (this was, like, 2005) so one day I asked her if I could be her intern.

I was a bureau chief. Bureau chiefs don’t ask to intern. But I recognized that I was a guy whose VCR thought it as “noon” perpetually. I was a cyber-idiot. I needed some help.

Lin graciously agreed and began teaching me HTML and basic Web first-aid.

Eventually, she left for a better gig and I replaced her as online editor. I’ve never been more grateful to any cohort than Lin. And now she works on my Web site and makes me look soooooo much cooler than I really am.

What a gem.
