Getting packed today for my research trip to the former Yugoslavia!
This is for the second Daria Gibron novel, which is tentatively slated for late 2013 (the first one should hit stands in March). I’m sending Daria and my second protagonist to that fascinating region. So I’m on a fact-finding mission.
I start in Zagreb, Croatia. From there, renting a car and heading to Belgrade, Serbia. Then back west into Bosnia-Herzegovina to see Sarajevo, the site of the worst siege in Europe since World War II. If my buddy, Tim, is up for it, we might visit the former Muslim enclaves of Gorazde and Srebrenica. A lot of terrible war crimes occurred in this part of the world during the civil war of the 1990s.
I am incredibly, incredibly lucky to get to do research trips like this. Katy King and I went to Milan, Italy, for the finale of the first Daria Gibron thriller, and the results were amazing! I’m hoping lightning will strike again.
With any luck, I’ll be able to blog from there. Will my equipment work? Will there be Internet connections? Will my voltage converter cause my clothes to catch on fire? I hate when that happens. We’ll see.
Wish me luck!
