Murder By The Book? Say It Ain’t So!

Word came through yesterday that Murder By The Book, one of the gems in Portland’s independent bookstore scene, will close after an estimated 30 years!

98da1fb61b453bf54830fe6207404e4dIt’s hard to imagine a better book-buying experience. The clerks have worked there forever and know their clients’ reading tastes. I’ve often walked in to have one of the clerks hand me a novel and say, “You might enjoy this one.” Nine times out of ten, they were right.

They also have been astoundingly loyal to us Northwest writers.

The store, at 3210 S.E. Hawthorne, is one of the best reasons to live in Portland.

Here’s to the many, many hours of joy I’ve spent in the aisles at Murder By The Book. And here’s to the sheer joy the clerks and owners and whodunit-advocates have shown us over the years.

Thank you.
