Freveletti : Running on Adrenalin
I’m late getting across the finish line for the Jamie Freveletti Fandom Race. But at least I got here.
Jamie wrote RUNNING FROM THE DEVIL, which I read last year and loved. Now I’ve read her second novel, 2010’s RUNNING DARK. Wow! A lot of writers worry about the “sophomore slump” of a second thriller living up to the first. No such worries for Ms. Freveletti!
Not to give too much away, but there’s a passage in the middle about the hero, biochemist Emma Caldridge, trying to get across Somalia, that is one of the best executed set pieces I’ve ever read. Emma is a terrific, brainy protagonist.
(She’s also a marathon runner and a great female protagonist. There’s a joke in there somewhere about Epinephrine being the sister of Nora and Hallie Ephron, but honestly, I haven’t had have enough caffeine to see the joke out.)
I promise to catch up to the rest of the thriller-reading community: Jamie Freveletti is for real.
